Prof Carl Hart, UN Rapporteur Agnes Callamard: “No Evidence that Shabu leads violence or causes brain damage”

United Nations special Rapporteur on extrajudicial executions Dr. Agnes Callamard quoted Professor Carl Hart’s statement that there’s no evidence that Shabu caused brain damage or violence to its users.

Professor Carl Hart is a professor of psychology and psychiatry at Columbia University. He is known for his research in drug abuse and drug addiction.

He also found that ’85-90 percent of people who used illegal drugs do not become addicted.’

Pro-Duterte blogger Sass Rogando Sasot debunked the beliefs and findings of Callamard and Hart.
She quoted the research of Trends in Neurosciences that would prove that Shabu or Methamphetamine users ‘can suffer long-lasting brain injury”.

The research added that it already tested to rodents and non-human primates and they proved that it really destroyed the brain of its user.

In her post, she cited another research that ‘criminal records demonstrates that meth users have more extensive criminal records’.

Some tweeter users also criticized Callamard for her tweet including the representative of the Philippines Teddy Locsin Junior who said that the UN Rapporteur “thinks Filipinos are just natives”

Atty. Ferdinand Topacio also told Callamard that she may try to use the illegal substance and to see it for herself.

Netizens were shocked when Callamard tweeted it because many people already knew that many heinous crimes in the Philippines were committed by drug addicts, including murder and rape.

Some of them believe that Callamard is pushing for the decriminalization of Shabu in the Philippines that could worsen the situation of the drug problem.
